Senior Metropolitan Police Officer Suspended - Klong Toey Market Disputes

Pol Col Somchai Patcharainto, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, was suspended from duty for fifteen days pending an investigation into allegations that he had mishandled the Klong Toey Market disputes.

The Division 5 is in charge of Klong Toey police station, which is in direct charges of the disputes between vendors at the Klong Toey Market and new concessionaire, Legal Profession.

The vendors alleged that the police station had dragged feet in probe against the firm for allegedly deploying its guards to attack the vendors after vendors protested against the new market management.

Rally site by the vendors were attacked by bombs several times and in the latest attack, two vendors were shot dead.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Worapong Chiewpreecha has signed an order to suspend Somchai from duty for fifteen days pending an investigation into his role related to the market disputes.
