No Piecemeal Expansion for Suvarnabhumi Airport

 The head of Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) says the Suvarnabhumi Airport expansion will proceed as a single undertaking rather than being split into several parts as suggested recently by its new chairman.  The expansion needs to proceed without delay as the airport is operating near its capacity, according to Mr Serirat. The project includes the construction of a third runway, 60 metres in width and 4,000 metres in length, and a mid-field terminal that will increase passenger handling capacity to60million from 45 million. "The second-phase development will proceed as a package and not in pieces," AoT acting president Serirat Prasutanond said in response to the suggestion of dividing the project into sub-phases to relieve AoT of financial constraints.

As Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday highlighted his visit to Lop Buri on Saturday to showcase his policies, the opposition Pheu Thai Party blamed the government for "superficial" efforts to cover up its poor performance.  Abhisit tried to showcase his Lop Buri trip while recording his weekly address en route. "My Cabinet members and I will try to meet fellow Thai citizens in the next couple of weeks to follow up on policy implementation and assess the situation in each locality," he said in the address aired yesterday by Channel 11 and Radio Thailand. He emphasised that his government wanted to directly solicit people's opinions on his government's policies.
